THE MARES The mares of Black Diamond receive individual care and feeding to meet the requirements needed for growth and health. Most of them are still young and growing so individual care is needed in order for them to become healthy broodmares in the future. They are turned out as much as possible but are stalled on some nights. If the weather is bad, they are blanketed and stalled. They are fed Purina Strategy with a daily wormer and coastal/fescue mixed hay twice a day. I also keep beet pulp as part of their diet. Our mares carry names of Smart Little Lena, Freckles Playboy, Docs Prescription, Doc Olena, Mr San Peppy, Wimpy, King, Peppy San Badger, On the Money Red, Colonel Freckles, Airdrie Apache, Doc Bar, and Three Bars just to name a few. |
